Urban Hacking Workshop

In this workshop we investigate playful methods of re-appropriating public spaces in the physical world and online. The idea is to provide a toolset to break apart and then re-imagine the use of certain elements of our public lives, be it the use of social media like Twitter, your smartphone’s capabilities, or a lamppost on the street. By subverting the use of these elements we engage in a public political and artistic debate on issues of public spaces, their control and their usage. The aim is to create an active and positive use of public spaces away from the control of capitalist consumption mechanisms. You will learn to use playful methods in order to change behaviour (either your own, or that of a group of people) in the public sphere in every day situations in order to create art projects, performances or urban games as interventions in this area. How do the gadgets do with our bodies, how do they make us move? What do we do with our gadgets when we take Selfies and share them? How do we move in physical and virtual public space? How do these spaces relate to places in the urban?
